Economatic is a Microsoft Excel based economic/financial
analysis tool for use with Landscape Management System (LMS). As
with most economic analysis tools available for forest managers
and landowners, Economatic can compute a typical suite of figures.
What makes Economatic unique is its direct linkage to growth models
through LMS. Rather than requiring the user to enter estimates
of future harvest yields and cash flows, these values are directly
imported from management simulations done in LMS. The parameters
in Economatic can be completely customized to account for user-specific
costs and rates, which provides robust analytical capabilities
for advanced users. A simple analysis using the default values
can also be done. Adjustment of parameters also allows for easy
sensitivity analysis as well as impact analysis of regulatory changes.
Economatic works on Windows-based computers with MS Excel 2000
or newer.
Economatic 1.3 comes bundled with two companion programs: Scenario
Analyzer 1.3 and Sort Table Wizard 1.01. Scenario Analyzer is a
tool for comparing multiple Economatic runs. Sort Table Wizard
is a tool for customizing the sort tables used by LMS portfolios.
Sort tables are what define the log prices and specifications and
thus determine the harvest output values that LMS exports to Economatic.
Important note: the Sort Table Wizard requires Access 2000 or later.
If you do not meet this requirement, you will need to download
the runtime components, which will allow full use of the Wizard.
You do not need to install the runtime components if you already
have Access 2000 or later, you've already installed runtime components
(e.g. with Inventory Wizard), or you do not plan on using the Sort
Table Wizard companion.
Once installed, Economatic can be accessed from the Analysis:Tables
menu in LMS. Scenario Analyzer can be accessed using the Export
function in Economatic. Sort Table Wizard can be accessed from
the LMS2 program group on the Windows Start Menu. All three components
feature built-in help and tutorials.
